Ecopower Heating teams up with The Carbon Managers

With much enthusiasm we made a real commitment to help protect the environment this month. We already knew that our radiators are some of the most energy efficient electric radiators out there, but we felt we could do something extra to help the environment. As an eco-friendly team who love the great outdoors, we decided that The Carbon Managers tree planting scheme fitted the bill perfectly.  

We’re now proudly a registered Carbon Conscious Company, and we have pledged to help offset up to a tonne of CO2 for every one of our customers. Through our tree planting scheme, in partnership with The Carbon Managers, we are continually enriching the British countryside, helping to absorb CO2 and also helping in a number of other areas. The tree planting scheme that we have become a part of really helps to make a difference in some very interesting ways. The scheme suppports The Challenger Trust that helpsdisadvantaged children in the UK. All of the trees are planted here in the UK at the Alladale Reserve in Scotland in an effort to restore the Ancient Caledonian Forest where it is hoped that some endangered wildlife will be reintroduced.  

The Carbon managers had some other interesting things to tell us about trees so we thought we’d share it with you:

• By cooling the air and ground around them, the shade from trees helps cool the Earth’s temperature
• A single mature beech tree can produce enough oxygen for 10 people in a year.
• Trees renew our air supply by absorbing carbon dioxide and producing oxygen.
• Shade trees can make buildings up to 20 degrees cooler in the summer.
• Trees lower air temperature by evaporating water in their leaves.
• Tree roots stabilize soil and prevent erosion.
• Trees improve water quality by slowing and filtering rain water, as well as protecting aquifers and watersheds.
• Over one given year; one hectare of mature woodland will absorb the carbon emissions of 100 average family cars.
• It is estimated that the average person in the UK consumes the equivalent of 12 trees a year. This present rate of world consumption is unsustainable and yet trees are vital to our life on earth.
